Psychotherapy and Counselling in East Finchley

I offer psychotherapy in East Finchley.  I have been practising as a psychotherapist since 2007.  In that time, I have worked with people experiencing a wide range of personal, emotional and relationship difficulties. These include:

  • Anxiety, low mood and feeling overwhelmed
  • Low self-esteem and self-criticism
  • Relationship difficulties and recurring patterns in relationships
  • Family relationships and the influence of upbringing
  • Feeling lost, unfulfilled or disconnected from yourself
  • Questions of identity, purpose and direction in life
  • Difficult decisions and conflicting feelings
  • Work-related stress, burnout and bullying
  • Significant life changes, loss and bereavement
  • Understanding how past experiences influence present feelings and relationships

You don’t need to have a clear idea of what’s troubling you, or know exactly what you want to change, to begin therapy.

Experience and Qualifications

I trained at WPF Therapy (Westminster Pastoral Foundation), where I completed a postgraduate diploma in psychodynamic therapy, followed by a Master’s degree in Psychodynamic Theory and Practice, accredited by the University of Roehampton.

I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Oxford.

Alongside my private practice, I have worked extensively with clients referred through Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs). These organisations refer people for counselling and therapy to help them navigate a wide range of personal and professional difficulties.

This work has given me considerable experience of issues including work-related stress, burnout, bullying, relationship difficulties and challenges at different stages of life.

I have experience of both short-term and longer-term therapy. While some difficulties can be explored within a limited number of sessions, longer-term work can offer the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of yourself, explore recurring patterns and consider how earlier experiences may be shaping your life today.

I’m registered with the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy) and I work within their code of ethics and professional practice.

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Counselling

My approach is psychodynamic. This means we will work together to identify patterns in your feelings, thoughts, and behaviour.

Psychodynamic therapy explores how experiences and relationships, including those from earlier in life, may continue to influence how we feel, think and relate to others in the present. Some of these influences may be outside our awareness, yet still shape our responses and the difficulties we encounter.

Through talking and reflection, therapy can offer an opportunity to explore these connections and develop a deeper understanding of yourself. As patterns and feelings become more understandable, you may begin to see your experiences in a different light, recognise choices that were previously difficult to see, and find new ways of relating to yourself and others.

This is often a gradual process. The aim is not simply to look back, but to understand how the past may be influencing the present, and to consider what this understanding might make possible for you now.

Over time, this understanding may help you feel more in touch with who you are and what matters to you, and to consider new ways of living and relating to yourself and others. This is often a gradual process. The aim is not simply to look back, but to understand how the past may be influencing the present, and what this understanding might make possible for you now.

Why Consider Therapy?

Sometimes we seek therapy because we are struggling with something specific. At other times, we may have a more general sense of feeling unhappy, stuck or disconnected from ourselves, without fully understanding why.

Therapy offers a space to explore your thoughts and feelings, reflect on your experiences and begin to make sense of difficulties that may have felt confusing or difficult to resolve.

By exploring how past experiences and relationships might be influencing the present, it can be possible to recognise familiar patterns, understand yourself more fully and find new ways of relating to yourself and others.

Therapy can also help you explore what matters to you, distinguish your own wishes and needs from the expectations of others, and develop a clearer sense of the life you want to lead.

What might you want to explore in therapy?
